Following is an email I sent out last year regarding this event (yup...feeling a little lazy & don't want to rewrite it.):

It's time once again for the world famous Orange County Fair Demolition Derby.  As many of you may recall, last year we had planned to attend the demolition derby after my BBQ in the Bush.  When time came to head out to the derby, we were all too comfortable around the pool to leave (that is except for Gene who can attest to the Derby's crude excitement).  This year, in order to circumvent the stress brought on by choosing between two such spectacular events, I'm holding the BBQ at a different, yet undetermined, date.

There's no time left to purchase tickets to the Demolition Derby via the mail in order form, so to reserve tickets, you must call the box office at 845-343-4826.  I suggest reserving tickets because the Demolition Derby sells out every year.  I also suggest getting there early because it takes a while to pick up your tickets and get to the grandstand.

Because there are only a few days left before the event, I will not coordinate ticket purchases.  I'll leave that up to you.  If you want to come, reserve your tickets and we'll meet at the fairgrounds.  If you're concerned with travel arrangements, let me know.  Chances are someone will have room in his car and I'll try to match people up with rides.  There is also the option of coming to Middletown by train (details at bottom of page).   I highly recommend this event because it will perhaps be the most fun you'll ever have watching such ludicrous & hazardous behavior.  I hope to see you this weekend.

Train Details   If you don't have a ride, you can take the train to Middletown / Town of Wallkill, NY and I'll pick you up.  For information on train tickets & schedules, please visit the NJ Transit website, select the "Main & Bergen Co Line" and select travel between Hoboken, NJ & Middletown / Town of Wallkill, NY.

(I omitted the train schedule in case it has changed)

As you can see, the train schedule for this area sucks!  That explains why I drive into NYC.  So taking the train should be your last resort for transportation.

From Manhattan, you'll need to take the Path train over to Hoboken, NJ to catch the NJ Transit train to Middletown.  If you're taking the PATH, make sure to leave yourself extra time because the PATH runs infrequently on Sundays and there are only two trains departing from Hoboken.
